Kia ora e te Whānau,
We are at the point in the year where we ask ākonga to start thinking about their courses for the following year.
At Year 10 this means choosing two options per semester. At Year 11 this means creating an individual learning plan across the year. At both these levels this allows each ākonga to explore their abilities across a range of courses.
At Years 12 and 13 course selection involves choosing a narrower band of subjects which contribute to attaining Level 2 and Level 3 NCEA in order to achieve qualifications for the workforce or tertiary study.
This process will begin across the school next Thursday 12 September. All relevant information will be emailed to whānau next week.
An important part of the selection process for ākonga in years 9 and 10 will be attending the Hooked on Learning Expo on Thursday night. All year 9 – 11 whānau were emailed about this earlier this week.
However, all members of the St Peter’s community are very welcome to attend this event to learn more about St Peter’s, the variety of courses on offer at year 11 and what school looks like without Level 1 NCEA. A selection of nibbles as well as the old faithful sausage sizzle will be available!
Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with me or any relevant teachers as you and your ākonga work your way through the course selection process, and I look forward to seeing you next Thursday night if you can make it.
Kia pai tō rā!
Bridget Ryan
