The year 13s are busy trying recipes to cook in preparation for when they leave home. As a treat this week we cooked lamb steaks, naan bread and served this with a minted yoghurt dressing. Part of this task was looking at the benefits of eating red meat - High in protein, zinc, B12 and iron. We also looked at the importance of supporting the meat industry.
The lamb wraps were a hit so here is the recipe below: (for 2)
Lamb
2 small lamb steaks
salt pepper and oil.
Season steaks and pan fry 3-4 minutes each side, let stand
Naan bread
Half a teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of dried yeast
¼ cup warm water
Stir the above and let bubble- approx 10 minutes
Add 135g plain flour
¼ cup plain unsweetened yoghurt
1 dessertspoon olive oil and a pinch of salt
Mix and then knead for 10 minutes. Roll out into saucer size Naan breads and cook in hot pan until golden and risen. You will need to flip these.
Dressing
1 Tablespoon of mayonnaise
1/8 cup yogurt
1/8 cup mint chopped
1 teaspoon lemon
¼ clove garlic chopped
Mix the above ingredients, serve the dressing over top of the meat and some salad greens on top of Naan bread.
