International's trip to Stewart Island

Posted Thursday March 27, 2025

A stunning day here at Stewart Island to kickstart our weekend excursion with our International whanau 😍. Our students have been soaking in the scenic views on every turn. From our ferry ride this morning to our bus tour around the island; a quick dip at the beach which is a two minute walk from our accommodation and winding down with a friendly basketball game against our principal Mr Udy's A Team of Mr Fraser Gulliver, Big Chief Ethan Chan and the junior members of our camp 😉😆. Now, it's time to rest the bodies in preparation for a 4 hour hike tomorrow.

Before bedtime last night, we were summoned to the rear lawns of our accommodation to witness a kiwi friend which turned up to say gidday. It was an amazing experience for our students as most have only seen photos or fridge magnets. Last night, it was real and we didn't have to go far. It rounded off our day one in true kiwi style 😊. Day two is slowly winding down with our crew tending to sore limbs and tired bodies after a testing hike in drizzle through undulating terrain. From Oban to Ackers Cottage (oldest building in NZ) to a steady climb to the lighthouse and back to Oban, our crew took it all in their stride and pushed their way through it as a team. This was followed by a dip at the beach, good old fish and chips and a game of pool. Tired and weary, everyone is appreciating this unique experience which our International students will certainly remember for years to come.
