Kia ora e te whānau,

Over the past two weeks, there have been many activities and goodbyes held that have recognised and celebrated many of our senior students who have now left and are preparing for their NCEA examinations. It is lovely to see so many of our staff and students acknowledge the journey they have been on together this year and the many years before.

This week, I was privileged to attend the Otago Daily Times Class Act awards in Dunedin, which celebrates the excellence of students in the Otago region. Our hardworking and well-deserving recipients are Daniel Kovarski and Samantha Marsh. I hope you were able to read about their milestones and achievements in Monday’s paper this week. We congratulate both of you; we are very proud of you for receiving automatic entitlement to a University of Otago Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship for 2025.

Today, we celebrated Mass, which included recognising our leaving Year 13 students for the years they have spent with us. I was unfortunately in absentia, as I am in Wellington attending a funeral, but I was certainly there in spirit with this great bunch of young people. As we reach the end of the year, the focus will shift to welcoming our new St Peter’s students and their whānau who will join our College community in 2025.

I wish to acknowledge and thank the huge team at the College who have worked to ensure that all of these activities were successful in not only celebrating and recognising our students but also in bringing together and acknowledging our wider community of parents, families, and friends who have supported our young people. To the team at the College—who are too many to name individually—thank you for all of your time and support; it was noticed and appreciated.

With our Year 12 and 13 students on study leave and now only coming into the College to sit exams or attend tutorials, although the school may feel quieter, there is still much left in the year for our students in Years 7-11, with Year 10 camp preparations well underway.

To those leaving the College, I am confident that during your time at St Peter’s, you have been equipped with the knowledge and skills to ensure that you are empowered to pursue your own personal excellence and are prepared to challenge and shape your future. You are young people of Mercy and Charity who act justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with our God, and we all wish you the very best for your future.
