On August 30th, our Under 13 rugby team headed off to an awesome tournament in Queenstown called the New Zealand Junior Rugby Tournament. We knew it was going to be tough and it lived up to its expectations.
We had an early start on the first morning at 6am and hit the road for our first big day. We arrived at the Queenstown Events Centre and attended the opening ceremony; it was very cool seeing all the other clubs. Our first game was against Waihi. It was a good game and it was great to have a close game against our buddy team. Then we came up against Christchurch Football Club who we knew would be tough, but we still gave our absolute all and tried our best. Coming into the third game of the day against Upper Clutha, we were exhausted and tired, but we still gave it a really good shot and it was a good game to finish off an awesome day of rugby.
Day Two - We got up to a great breakfast then we hopped in the bus/van and prepared for another exciting day. We started the day with a very tough and exciting game against High School Old Boys (from Christchurch) which ended in a draw. After that we got ready for our last game against Sumner. Once again it was really tough, but we still gave it everything we had left in us. That was our last game of the tournament, so then we headed off to Prizegiving. Luke Davie and Mason Chittock were named in the Tournament Team with Luke Davie was named the overall Most Valuable Player for Under 13 grade.
Finally, we would like to thank all the support that helped us get there. Firstly, our Coaches, Jamie Chittock and Al Wilson, TIC Liza Wilson, Manager Rebecca Chittock, our bus driver Craig Ross, Dave and Erin Duffy and Deborah Gardyne for making our tournament possible.
A big thank you to our sponsors, Goodmeats Butchery and Bakery, K2 Contracting, Kaiwera Downs, JB & R Chittock Ltd.
