Maths Week at St Peter’s College will see students in Years 7 – 10 working on Maths challenges, puzzles, the official MathsWeek website, and other activities different to their usual classroom work.
Started in New Zealand in 1998 by the New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers, it is a week where Mathematics can take centre stage in the students’ learning.
While the senior students may not see any difference in their classroom learning, there are a number of activities that will be open to students from all year levels, including the very popular “How many jellybeans are in the jar?” competition. When students enter any of these competitions, they need to include their whanau class name, as there is a prize for the whanau class with the most entries overall, including the whanau banner competition.
This year, we are also inviting students and their whanau to an evening of Maths games and activities. This will be held on Tuesday, August 15th, 5.30 – 7.00pm, in the D1 and D2 classrooms. Please see the flyer advertising this, later in the newsletter. We look forward to welcoming you all to this fun evening of Maths.
