Fabrice Frei, Flynn Reed, Tane Tutty and Luke Shallard represented St Peter’s at the Southland Secondary Schools Badminton Championships in Invercargill on August 11th.
There were 22 teams competing from schools throughout Southland. Each round consisted of all your team members playing a singles match and then joining forces to play doubles matches. This meant a total of 6 points on offer for each round - the winners going through to the playoff rounds for placings.
Our boys met Southland Boys first up and all had decisive wins. Taking out each singles match convincingly and then proving far too strong again in the doubles matches. SPC won 6 – 0.
The boys then went on to play Northern Southland College. Lots of banter was exchanged as the Boys knew their opponents well. Every game was hard fought with three games going down to the wire being at match point several times and to then having to keep playing to win by a two point margin. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong side of some very entertaining games with the SPC boys going down 2 – 4 and being knocked out of cup contention. Congratulations to James Hargest College who were deserved winners on the day.
