The Southland Secondary Schools Cross Country was held on Wednesday, 15th May, at Ivan Wilson Park in Te Anau. The course is a "proper" cross country and is set amongst native bush, with open grassland, a lake in the middle, and lots of hills to contend with.
St. Peter’s was represented by eight students, running in four sections. Congratulations to all who competed. A huge amount of determination and resolve was demonstrated by all.
First up, we had Courtney White, Isla Hailes, Emma Parish, and Matilda Gemmill competing in the U16 Girls race, running 3000m. Courtney came in 6th, Isla 11th, Emma 14th, and Matilda 15th. This was a hotly contested race with only a couple of minutes separating the group.
Next to run was Thomas Johnson in the U16 Boys - 4000m. Thomas came in 11th place out of 22.
Millie McFadzien and Ava Wiegersma lined up on the start line for the Senior Girls (Over 16’s) 4000m. Millie smashed it out, coming 1st in a time of 15.18 minutes. Ava finished 7th in what was an extremely fast-paced race, set by Millie.
The Senior Boys (Over 16’s) were the final race of the day, running 5000m. Ashton Wadsworth placed 8th out of 27. This was the largest group of runners for the day, and the top 11 runners were all within striking distance for the whole race.
Thank you to all the parents and supporters who helped out and made the day possible.
