Year 11 Agricultural and Horticultural Science are doing a trial hydroponics run with a view to setting up a small-scale commercial unit in 2025. This is our trial, built from a kit by Year 11 and planted three weeks ago at the 1-leaf stage. Our 36 lettuces are flourishing! Students have been learning how to mix nutrient solutions correctly and to calibrate and care for the pH and conductivity probes. They test both (pH and EC) twice a week and have been learning how to make adjustments to keep the seedlings within ideal conditions—and boy, is it paying off!
